Yes, it’s Sri Lalit Mohanty, the well-known former cricketer of the Odisha. In the year 1962, at Souri village, Salepur Block, Cuttack District in Odisha, he was born into a lower middle-class family, where his father was a policeman and his mother was a housewife. Every time his father was bound by his duty, but as an ideal father, he took good care of his children. In his family, there are three brothers and two sisters, along with their parents. He has always been enthusiastic about learning and playing since he was a child. During his childhood, his father was transferred to Chhatrapur, Ganjam District, and his schooling was started there. One fine day his family went to his father’s friend’s house,
where his mother for the first time watched a cricket match running on the TV, and she thought these people were wearing white dresses and playing on the ground, which looked very nice and interesting.
After he came back to the house, his mother told him that she watched a cricket match on TV, which was looking very dignified. Immediately, she asked him “You’re playing various games, but why don’t you play cricket instead of these games”. He was speechless at that time; for a moment, he was blacked out. A few moment later, he told his mother that “mother, from today onwards I will play only cricket to be a cricket and make our family proud”. But his father was not in support of him becoming a cricketer at all; according to him, physical fitness is always a priority, not these games. In this way, a few years passed, but his thoughts were pulling him to frustration level, and at the age of 12, while playing cricket for his school, a person called Sri B. Krishnappa from Parlakhemundi was shown his game and wanted to teach the correct techniques and positions.
From there, the journey for the cricketer was started, and at the age of 15, he was selected for the Ganjam District Team, then the Berhampur Cricket Team, and then he was selected for the Ranjit Trophy (under 22). In the meantime, he also got the chance to play for the Assam Cricket Team. After that, he completed his graduation at Chatrapur College, and in 1987–88, he went to the NIS (National Institute of Sports) to complete the coach certification training to become a certified coach. Then he joined the cricket academy at Nagpur Hingan Ghat as a coach, and from 1989 he went to the Odisha Cricket Association to improve new talent in Odisha. In the middle of the term, he got the chance to work with BCCI as well. In 1992, he was posted to the Government of Odisha Sports and Youth Services Department and taught new talented players about sports.
For many years, he taught and coached many talented players. A lot of players appreciated his coaching techniques and strategies, and in 2001 he retired from the Sports and Youth Services Department. After that, he joined the Hi-Tech Medical organization for the development of LALIT CRICKET ACADEMY. Since then, he has organized many sports events for the students and players.
